Welcome from the General Manager
Acting General Manager - Peter Orourke

A very warm welcome to the website of Shellharbour City Council. While we’re one of the oldest local government areas in New South Wales, we’re continuing to rapidly expand as a city and have our sights fixed firmly on the opportunities of the future.

What was once a collection of disparate villages, townships and suburbs is now a cohesive community with a well-established and thriving city centre, which has been master planned to ensure it caters for Shellharbour’s ongoing needs.
With the global economic situation posing extra challenges for local government, Council continues to maintain a high level of performance against all the objectives set out in our Management Plan.

Some of those highlights include the continued expansion of aviation-related businesses at the Illawarra Regional Airport, the development of Myimbarr Community Park with its sporting facilities, wetlands and open areas, the progress of the billion-dollar Shell Cove tourist/residential development, and our innovative “economic gardening” program which identifies and assists emerging entrepreneurs in the city.

Our website contains a vast amount of information about Council’s services and projects, and I invite you to explore and learn more about our city and Council. In particular, I encourage you to visit the E-subscriptions section and register to receive ongoing news updates, and the On Public Exhibition pages where you can tell us your views on a range of projects.

Most of our residents would be aware that Brian Weir retired recently as Council's General Manager after more than 25 years in the position. This is truly the end of an era for Shellharbour City, and we sincerely wish Brian and his family all the very best for a happy and healthy future.

Mr Weir's successor, Michael Willis will take up the position on 1 November 2010.

Peter O'Rourke
Acting General Manager
